What is Your Plan B?

Filed under: Economy,Work from Home — sherrypope at 8:22 pm on Monday, July 19, 2010

With our economy in a down turn, most people thoughts are on their money and how they are going to make “ends meet”.  There are some who thought they had a solid plan in place but never gave a thought to having a Plan B.Plan B?  What is that, you may ask.  Well, it is a backup plan that you have in place that can create a solid, dependable income in case something happens to your Plan A.  Do you have one?

It doesn’t matter what type of business you are in right now, whether you are selling cars, real estate, or even if you are a mortgage broker or a drug rep – companies are laying off people – our economy is down.  So what is your Plan B?  Have you ever stopped to think about having one?  Until recently most people would say their Plan A would provide for them for the rest of their lives – that they had a golden parachute in place.  But with incomes down 30 percent and the fact that the economy will take a while before it even begins to recover, a steady job appears to be more valuable than winning the lottery and quite frankly, what are the chances of that happening?  So what is your Plan B?

Partnering with our company provides you a solid Plan B without changing your budget, no additional money to invest – the only investment will be your time.  Since our business provides highly consumable products that people need on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, we have a business that is recession proof.  I can help you put a solid backup plan into place.  If you are interested in partnering with a 25 year old, $850 million dollar, debt-free company, let me know.  We will help you put a recession-proof Plan B in place!

Natural Cancer Killer????

Filed under: Health Risks,Relationships — sherrypope at 9:35 pm on Friday, July 9, 2010

I would like to share with you how cancer has affected my life.  My mom died from cancer of the lung and liver.  I have a brother who had thyroid cancer, a sister who is a breast cancer and bladder cancer survivor, and now my baby brother has cancer.  My cousin died almost a year ago because she had cancer on her tongue which spread through to her lymph nodes.  Even I have had a brush with this horrible disease – I had a precancerous spot on my arm, which required surgery.  I was left with a horrible scar (thank you  mr. plastic surgeon).
So you can see why I am now an account rep for a company that has non-toxic products.  I love informing others about the dangers of their daily care products because when they “get it” they open their accounts to purchase the safer products and I know that I have done “my job” with my quest to help others know they have safer choices.
I just came across this article and wanted to share it with you because my company has a pure form of tea tree oil that comes from Australia.  It is important to know your source and the strength of tea tree oil – don’t settle for anything but the best.
I don’t know if this article is true – but what if ………………….

Tea Tree Trumps Tumors

8/7/2010
Natural cancer killer

by Simon Grose
A 2004 study reported that tea tree oil causes cell death.

TRIALS of topical  application of oil derived from Australia’s tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been shown to suppress cancerous tumours in mice.

As far back as 2004, a study found tea tree oil (TTO) caused apoptosis – cell death – of melanoma cells, but the research funded by Australia’s Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) and Novasel, a Brisbane-based medication marketer, is the first to trial TTO in vivo against cancer.

In the work led by Sara Greay of the University of Western Australia, strains of human mesothelioma and melanoma cells were subcutaneously implanted into mice. After tumours became established the overlying areas were shaved and preparations of TTO were applied for between four and 16 days.

Mesothelioma cells treated with TTO for up to 48 hours underwent significant necrosis and lower levels of apoptosis while the melanoma cells exhibited significant necrosis, but negligible apoptosis after a minimum exposure of 48 hours.

“The demonstration that four applications of topical TTO can inhibit tumour growth and even induce tumour regression of subcutaneous models of mesothelioma and malignant melanoma with local toxicity in the form of skin irritation completely resolving, is extremely encouraging,” the researchers say in a paper published on the RIRDC website https://rirdc.infoservices.com.au/downloads/10-060.pdf.

TTO is recognised for its antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory applications. While more than 100 components of TTO have been identified, the study claims that its major component, terpinen-4-ol, is the most likely cancer antagonist.

A patent application based on the findings was lodged in July last year. Novasel’s managing director Steen Jorsal says his company has committed to fund the research for a further two years.

“This work has shown that tea tree oil affects melanoma and mesothelioma but not through apoptosis and not entirely through necrosis,” Jorsal says. “It’s through a different pathway and what we are trying to do is find that pathway.”

The aim is to investigate the potential for TTO to act as a preventative agent against potentially pre-cancerous actinic or solar keratosis skin lesions.

After reading this you can understand why this is an important thing for me and I sincerely hope you do whatever is necessary to protect yourself and your family.  Let me know if you have questions or if you want more info on how to switch to safer products.

What! I Need a Website? Help!!

Filed under: Work from Home — sherrypope at 1:57 pm on Sunday, June 27, 2010

When starting a business whether you are a work from home mom or you have a store front business, it is important that you advertise your business in as many ways as possible.  When I started my home business, I was blessed with finding a woman who helped me develop my first website.  Jill was good to work with and I enjoyed bouncing ideas around with her.  We completed the website and it was a good one.  I was satisified and felt good about our accomplishment.  Then Jill’s business developed and went into a different direction and she was no longer helping design and build websites.  I was in a panic – what would I do if I needed changes or wanted another website.

Then someone recommended Website Solutions with K.C. Cagne.  I have to say I was apprehensive at first after all I had Jill who I thought was great.  Well that was 4 years ago and I am so glad that K.C. was recommended to me.  I now have several blogs, several more websites and K.C. even set up my Ryze page.

I almost forgot to tell you that K.C. is great to work with and is helpful.  She works with your ideas and lets you know if something will work and if not she offers great suggestions.  Check my other websites out and you decide.  For me, she has been a “god send” to someone who desperately needed a web designer.

The reason I am mentioning this is because K.C. now has a ebook with all the info you need to know about webdesign, the title is “What Web Designer Don’t Want You to Know“.  Take a look and be sure to download her book – it’s free!

Why Are Friends Hard to Find?

Filed under: Relationships — sherrypope at 11:38 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2010

On my Successfully Women Network there was a post on “What are Friends for?”  There have been many comments on what is a friend and the member’s experiences with their friends.  This made me sad.  Why?

When I lived in the town where I grew up I had a best friend, Martha, but she was killed in a car crash. We have moved so much since then that there never seems to be a “best friend”. I have a lot of on line friends but none that I can call and say let’s go to a movie or come and have coffee and I miss that. It’s sad to say, but I think that once someone has a best friend that they aren’t open to having another friend to do things with.

I now live in a town where most people have lived here for years and they speak and we talk by our mailboxes or in the front of our houses, but they always seem to be too busy for anything else. When I mention coffee it appears that they never have time for anything else but their family and friends. Sad isn’t it! When a new neighbor moved into our subdivision I took a tea cup and some fancy tea to her and that was it. I wave when she is in the yard and have even walked over to where she was working in her flowers but no attempt has been made on her part to visit.

So I keep looking for that special friend. I guess the reason I am sharing all of this is, if you have a best friend be open to developing others, your life will be enriched and she may be like me, looking for someone to have coffee with.

Chemicals DO Cause Cancer

Filed under: A Happy Safe Home,Health Risks — sherrypope at 4:33 pm on Thursday, May 13, 2010

This article is so related to my home business – to my passion of letting consumers know there are dangers in the products they use in their homes on a daily basis.  Please read and heed the advice.

President’s Cancer Panel Says
Chemicals Do Cause Cancer!

Authoritative, bipartisan body confirms what scientists and environmentalists have been saying for years – and offers tips on what you can do to protect yourself.

Thu May 13, 2010 11:30 AM ET

Have you heard? Chemicals in our environment can cause cancer!

I don’t mean to sound so excited about what is frankly bad news: A government-issued report evaluates current scientific evidence (based on testimony from 45 experts) and concludes that:

  1. The risk of environmentally induced cancer has been grossly underestimated.
  2. Kids are especially at risk for cancer due to environmental contaminants and should be protected.
  3. We must have stronger regulation for environmental contaminants and protection of human health.
  4. Safer alternatives to many currently used chemicals are urgently needed.

But as Richard Denison, PhD, a senior scientist with the Environmental Defense Fund says (in his own blog post), “The report is remarkable not so much for its core finding that chemical exposures are a major factor in human cancer, but rather because of its source – an authoritative and bipartisan body — and because of the strong linkages it makes to our failed chemicals policies.” In fact, the President’s Cancer Panel, established in 1971, is a group of three distinguished experts who review America’s cancer program and report directly to the president. It’s about as far as you can get from the acupuncture-loving fringe of modern medicine. Not hating on acupuncture there, you understand, just letting you know that these guys are far from radical conspiracy theorists; The New York TimesNicholas Kristof describes them as “mission control of mainstream scientific and medical thinking.” So while the news is grim to be sure, the report itself represents a positive step forward in the fight to strengthen our country’s chemical policy and protect our kids’ health.

Want to know what you can do to help? Tell your Congressperson to support the Safe Chemicals Act of 2010, which would overhaul the riddled-with-loopholes Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976.

And do what you can to protect yourself and your family. Here’s the President’s Cancer Panel’s list of recommendations (from pages 145-147 of the report):

  •  Choose foods, house and garden products, play spaces, toys, medical tests, and medicines that will minimize your kids’ exposure to toxic chemicals. (This means eating organic as much as possible and buying products that you know to be free of BPA, phthalates and other endocrine disruptors.)
  • Eat meat produced without antibiotics and added growth hormones. Avoid or minimize consumption of processed, charred, and well-done meats to reduce exposure to carcinogenic heterocyclic amines and polyaromatic hydrocarbons.
  • If you’re pregnant or thinking about it: Both mothers and fathers should avoid exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals and known or suspected carcinogens prior to a child’s conception and throughout pregnancy and early life, when risk of damage is greatest.
  • Take off your shoes when you enter your home, especially if you work with or around chemicals. (Wash work clothes separately from other laundry.)
  • Filter your tap water. (And continue to choose tap water over commercially bottled water.)
  • Store food and water in containers made from stainless steel, glass, or BPA- and phthalate-free plastic.
  • Don’t microwave in plastic, since chemicals can leach into food when it’s heated.
  • Stop using chemical fertilizers and pesticides on your garden to keep these chemicals from contaminating drinking water supplies.
  • Properly dispose of medications, household chemicals, paints and other materials to minimize drinking water and soil contamination.
  • Turn off lights and electrical devices when not in use to reduce your exposure to petroleum combustion by-products.
  • Drive a fuel-efficient car, bike or walk when possible, or use public transportation to cut the amount of toxic auto exhaust in the air.
  • Wear a headset when you use your cell phone, keep calls brief, and text instead of calling when possible to reduce your exposure to electromagnetic energy.
  • Have your home’s radon levels tested periodically.
  • Avoid second-hand smoke. (And don’t smoke yourself. Duh.)
  • Talk to your doctor about the need for tests or procedures that involve radiation exposure and keep a record of all imaging or nuclear medicine tests received and if known, the estimated radiation dose for each test.
  • Wear sunscreen and UV-protective clothing.

Retired Husbands with Wives That Work at Home – A Few Pointers

Filed under: Relationships,Work from Home — sherrypope at 12:54 pm on Friday, April 23, 2010

This is an Enzine article that I wrote a few years ago – just came across it in an old file and thought I would share.

Well I never thought I would find myself in this position. After years working in Corporate America and retiring, I had no desire to do anything else – not even a work-at-home business. But there I was in a new state (Florida) with nothing to do during my day except housework. My son was grown, my husband was working, and I “bumped” into a home business that I knew would work. I had been in my Consumer Direct Marketing business for about a year and a half when my husband and I decided that coastal Florida with their hurricanes were no longer any fun, and “hunkering down” wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. So we decided South Texas would be a better place to live since hurricanes would not be a 6-month threat hanging over our heads and that a change in scenery would be good.

So here I am in Texas working my home-based business with a husband that is now not working. My dilemma is I am not use to having him “underfoot”. For all you women with small children who are home with you, thank your lucky stars and God, because at least you can put them to bed when they get cranky or send them to their room when they get out of control.

Seriously though, it has been a mixed blessing. It has taken us a while to get into the flow of things and my advice to those who suddenly find themselves in the same position is this:

1. Sit down and talk about what he would like to do to help.

2. Divide the chores accordingly.

3. Keep your office hours.

4. Stick to a schedule and let your spouse know your daily schedule.

5. Keep a sense of humor.

6. Realize that the time you do have with your spouse is special.

7. Pray that he gets another job.

Like I said it has taken some time for us to make this work and I am adjusting to having him home. He is a good cook, but I am sure my cholesterol level has climbed a few points. I just know that now that we are in “the flow” of this, someone will call and offer him a job. I will miss his cooking and running errands, but have realized in this life you can’t have your cake and eat it too, which by the way he makes a darn good cake! Now if I could just convince him to do windows.

UPDATE:
Well as you would guess, Ken has gone back to work.  There are days when I really miss him being here.  Other days, not so much.  The house is quieter and the aroma of food cooking is gone – is that a good thing?  Well it depends on how busy I am and what my schedule is like.  All in all, I know that I would much rather have him “under foot” and him doing his thing, than for him not to be here.  We never know how much time we have with any loved one, so whether you are just starting out in your marriage or have had many years with your spouse, make the most of the time you have together.  “Live, Love, Laugh and Be Happy”

God Bless,

Sherry

The Eyes Have it!

Filed under: Beautiful You — sherrypope at 9:33 pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Are any of you like me? I won’t go out of the house without having lipstick on and making sure my lashes look like the models you see in magazines. I have learned recently that mascara is one of the cosmetics most likely to cause health problems. In 1990 according to the Safe Shoppers Bible “there were at least 1,964 emergency room admissions because of mascara-related injuries”.   A small but significant number of eye maladies women suffer are caused by eye makeup. As an example, Conjunctivitis and Contact Dermatitis can be caused by mascara. Sometimes this occurs because the eyeball is scratched while applying the mascara but a preservative called quaternium 15 is a direct eye irritant, so this could also be the culprit. Some products contain phenyl mercuric acetate, this is both an allergen and skin irritant, which should never be used around the eyes. Not all mascaras are alike so make sure you know what you are using.

Safe tips when using mascara:
1. Never use mascara if your eye has been injured, infected or scratched.

2. Always handle your mascara carefully and in a sanitary manner. NEVER apply water to mascara. I remember once when I was in a public restroom I saw a woman spit on her mascara brush – this is definitely a no no! Even though mascaras have preservatives, it is still likely to become contaminated by adding something to the mascara.

3. Never keep your mascara longer than three months to four months because over time the preservatives break down.

4. Finally, never apply mascara immediately after applying nail polish or using polish remover because their ingredients can irritate the eyes with direct contact.

If you would like to find out how to purchase a mascara without toxic ingredients or other non-toxic products, check out the link at SwitchToSaferProducts.com and request information there.
